BEING SEEN AS AN INFORMATION/KNOWLEDGE EXPERT CAN BE VERY MOTIVATING
I love the variety of the task in my job. It’s particularly enjoyable working on projects with the teams in my organisation. I am often seen as an information/knowledge expert, which is very motivating, especially when I am working with senior clinicians.
My job is varied and each day is different. I work on many projects, including running training sessions, developing health promotion campaigns and leading health research projects. Another fantastic element in today’s information world is being able to utilise all the latest web technologies, like blogs, wikis and RSS to help develop new information resources.
Working with a variety of people, including health professionals, researchers and library staff in other organisations, adds to the excitement. One of the beauties of outreach work is the fact I’m not confined to work in one location. My job involves getting out and about in the community and visiting lots of different locations to promote information resources to NHS staff.
What’s next?
There are many opportunities open to me. I am hoping to complete my Masters in public health, but have also considered teaching.
Best bit about my job:
The variety
Any downsides?
Living with the librarian stereotype!
Lucy’s career tip:
- Having the enthusiasm to help people to access and understand information they come across, whether it is at work, studying or just general life stuff, is the biggest asset you can bring to the library world.
