Delivering library services to offenders whilst they’re in custody is a crucial part of their rehabilitation and sentence plan. Rather than punishment, prison librarians focus on equipping prisoners, some of whom haven’t been sentenced, with new skills. The 140 prisons in England and Wales are required by law to provide a library service. Often, this is linked to the local authority library service.
