Want to know more about library careers?

Here are a few more resources you might want to check out. But the best advice is to pop along and quiz your local library staff. They will very often be happy to tell you more, or can direct you to plenty more resources. After all, these are the people that know exactly where to lay their hands on information.

Want to know more about a career in archives management?

If that’s the case, then our work here is done. Be realistic though, as entry to working in archives is extremely competitive and requires a huge commitment to training and ongoing professional development. Don’t rule out records management either, as these two roles are increasingly colliding.

Volunteering is your best bet, so get yourself down to a local archive and start touting your skills. ARC is the monthly newsletter for members of the Archives and Records Association (ARA). It contains both articles of interest, and employment advertisements. The job section can be accessed on the web at
http://www.archives.org.uk/publications/arcthesocietysmonthlynewsletter/arcrecruitment.html, if you want to check out what’s currently about. You can also search for local archive services in the ARCHON directory, available on the National Archives website.
