Apprenticeships

Unlike other sectors, training opportunities are not confined to major cities. You should be able to find a programme nearby, so you won’t need to leave your mates or the home comforts behind. And being service driven, as well as developing the knowledge, skills and understanding about specific job roles in libraries and information services, you won’t be pigeon holed. That’s because you’ll develop some highly transferable skills that are valued by every type of employer you could imagine, around the UK and beyond.

Available in England and Wales there are two apprenticeship levels. Entrants need to be 16 years or over to join either programme and you’d be working instantly towards nationally recognised qualifications.

If you enjoy the academic study whilst working, you might try higher qualifications like a foundation degree in Libraries, Museums and Archives, Library and Information Science or Information and Library Practice. That could lead to a degree or postgraduate level qualification.
